Students come to the centre ostensibly for communicative English practice. Our emphasis is primarily on productive skills and broadening of students vocabulary, though grammar, listening and reading are not neglected. Students are leveled on the basis of an internal placement system in an effort to place like with like and avoid vast disparities of level in each class . Levels range from Absolute Beginner to Intermediate. Average class size is sixteen to eighteen students. Lessons are 100 minutes long with a mid-lesson break allowed.

There are approx. 600 Mathayom students who come to the Centre in any given week. We work in conjunction with the Thai school though follow our own syllabus based upon the SNAPSHOT book series. Teaching involves coverage of this defined syllabus though also provides ample scope for teacheras individual input in regard to class projects.

Testing occurs twice a year at the end of each semester in the Thai Academic year. This takes place in October and February, respectively. Content is based on the textbook syllabus while the format is oriented toward the UCLES suite of ESOL exams (KET/PET/FCE) which most students are encouraged to take at some point during their time with us in order to build up their own portfolios and make themselves a more marketable prospect when it comes time to apply for university.

There are 12 qualified, native speaking staff from all corners of the English-speaking world. The Language Centre is well established within the nationally regarded St. John’s Campus and has been fulfilling this role for the past fifteen years. The Centre is extremely well resourced and has its own ‘Interactive Room’ with up-to-date computers, wireless Internet access as well as interactive whiteboards.

Post Outline:

• 21 hrs max. teaching per week with occasional cover. (Average = 19hrs)
• Individual projects-ongoing throughout the year.
• Office hours 8.00am- 4.00 pm Mon-Fri.

Pre-requisite Qualifications:

• Native Speaker of English
• Bachelor’s Degree
• RSA CELTA / CELTYL / or equivalent
