Full-time NES Progressive Teacher

This job is located at Darunsikkhalai School for Innovative Learning in Bangkok

Expected salary: At least 30,000 Baht/month

Teach progressive education in Bangkok!
We are a progressive education institution on the campus of King Mongkut's University of Technology, Thonburi. We teach using a project-based curriculum, in which students choose an area of focus and learn various subjects through activities, hands-on projects, and self-directed research. Students do not merely focus on academic learning, but also work hard on improving their social skills and learning behaviors.
We are a constructionist school on the outskirts of Bangkok. For more information about the educational philosophy of constructionism, you can look at the wikipedia site:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constructionism_(learning_theory)
At our school, students choose projects that they want to work on. Most of their time at school is spent working on these projects. It can be anything from Computer Animation to Japan to Chemical Engineering. The students work for 12 weeks on their selected area and at the end of the 12 weeks, they have an exhibition of their work and what they learned. Each project has a Thai facilitator and an English-speaking facilitator. The students work and learn half in Thai and half in English. Our job as facilitator can change very much from day-to-day depending on the needs of the students. Sometimes we provide activities. Sometimes we direct the students to look for information. Sometimes we provide encouragement and share in the students' excitement.
The job requires a person who is flexible and patient, who really enjoys spending time with the students, and who has a love of learning. Facilitators may be asked to work with any age group, from 6 years old up to 18 and may also be asked to work outside of their area of expertise. Because of this, facilitators have four weeks between each term to plan and learn for their next project.
We are looking for native English-speaking teachers interested in working in an environment where the primary goal is to motivate students to pursue their own learning goals. Previous experience in education is helpful but not required, although experience with alternative or progressive education will be a major benefit. More important than teaching experience is expertise or interest in one or more subject areas. Facilitators may be asked to teach one English class and one project class, providing a total of 15-20 contact hours per week.
All applicants must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent. We are particularly interested in applicants who have a background in science and/or kindergarten.
