Full-time Mini English Program, Prathom (Primary) - Lampang

This job is located at Anuban Lampang Khelangrat Anusorn School in Lampang

Expected salary: At least 30,000 Baht/month
Published on: 09-03-2016
Hello,

I am a teacher at Anuban Lampang school and we are looking for teachers for our next academic year commencing May 1st, 2016.

There are several positions open in the prathom range. It has not yet been decided which teacher will be teaching which grade, so I am unable to tell you exactly which grade you are applying for.

The school is currently classed in the top 3 Prathom schools in Northern Thailand and we are in contention for the coveted "King's School" award.

To save time, please read the conditions below. To be considered, you must fulfill the below criteria:

- Bachelors Degree holder (in any discipline) with your original certificate and transcript of scores.
- Be a citizen with a passport from the any of the following countries: UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA.
- Must have no criminal record in Thailand nor your home country (you must provide a criminal check clearance certificate to get you non-immigrant B visa)

We need someone from the 1st May, 2016 - so please don't apply if you can't be here in Lampang by then.

So, to tell you a bit about the school and the role:

What is the Mini English Program? It is a private program set up to give students a feeling of immersion. It is not a job teaching the same lesson to 20 different classes of 50 uninterested and poorly behaved students! As the MEP teacher, you will teach the kids English, Math, Science, Health and Art. I can honestly say that it is one of the better jobs you will find in the country - you have a homeroom teacher who is in nearly every class you teach, so "classroom management" (a nice euphemism for having to tell the kids to 'shut up and sit down' every two minutes) is, not exactly non existent, but heavily reduced.

You teach no more than 18 hours per week. The class sizes are limited to a maximum of 35, but there are many classes with between 18 - 23. You are in an a/c room with a PC hooked up to a projector. You have an a/c teachers' office where you can spend your free time preparing for your classes, grading and chatting with the large contingent of foreign teachers currently here.

You are expected to teach engaging and interesting classes. You are given textbooks, but it is expected that you go that extra yard and give the kids a rich and fulfilling English language experience. Please don't think this job is easy, it isn't. The parents pay a lot of money to send their kids here and they are demanding. Homework is expected in every subject several times per week. Regular testing as well as the usual final tests are to be written by you and grading given accordingly.

The salary is 33,000 per month. The school pays for your work permit and visa (although you foot the cost for the trip to Laos yourself). There is a dedicated assistant who helps you with the annoying 90 day reporting (you don't have to go yourself). The contract is for 12 months, so you get the big holidays paid for. You will be asked to teach for a week or two next year in the summer.

I hope that I have given you enough information to be going on.

All suitable CV's will be seen by me and my boss, with further face to face interviews to follow. If you don't hear back, please assume you have been unsuccessful.

If you are currently outside of the country but are genuine about wanting to teach here, I can arrange for a Skype/Facetime interview too. But please understand that priority will go to those applicants who can make a face to face interview.

Many thanks for reading and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

James
