ABOUT HALIO
HALIO (founded in 2006) is an independent learning center and our purpose is to develop an entrepreneurial spirit in our community of multilingual international children. We believe that the modern child needs to create their own adventures in learning, to design their own challenges, and invent their own risk-taking thresholds for manifesting their best selves.

We currently serve 40 students ages 7-12 in our Primary School (and an additional 15 students age 3-6 in Kindergarten), in trimesters scheduled evenly through the year.
We are reinventing ourselves to become more aligned with progressive project-based education. Recognizing that relationships and ownership are fundamental to success in learning, our team is working toward guiding students through gradually increasing levels of independence.

Our teaching philosophy encourages meaningful inquiry and interdisciplinary work, and we utilize blended learning to meet the needs of each student — leveraging the power of technology to personalize the classroom. We at HALIO are seeking dedicated teachers to join our intimate community and keep our children running to school in the mornings.

TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES
The teacher’s primary responsibilities are to model and mentor, share the passion for learning, deliver high quality collaborative lessons, and guide stimulating projects.

  • Join a team working to curate a world-class primary school level learning experience using best practices, based on experience and research

Provide regularly scheduled differentiated small group instruction and tutoring

  • Set learning goals in accord with standards for the term and plan small-group lessons so that students meet their learning goals
  • Provide individual or small-group tutoring to students who need additional support
  • Collect and use data to analyze student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Utilize online and offline resources for blended learning
  • Create interim assessments to evaluate student progress
  • Set clear expectations and monitor student behavior, as well as respond appropriately and consistently to misbehavior

Advise students individually to promote academic success & character development

  • Be part of a team identifying and planning for expected learning outcomes
  • Collect and reflect on student data
  • Communicate consistently and frequently with students and their parents about goals and progress; take in feedback and address questions or concerns directly, positively, and in a timely manner
  • Develop positive mindsets around goal-setting and academic work

Develop Project-Based Learning:

  • Co-design and facilitate activities to create real-world experiences for a mixed-age setting
  • Embed competencies in projects
  • Determine academic and social-emotional learning objectives and ensure that they are met
  • Use the resources of the local community to create a more relevant education
  • Co-organize field trips and guest speakers connected to the students’ learning

  • Support building a community of student-centered educators
  • Model and foster a culture of respect and learning
  • Supervise & ensure safety of students, including before and after school, during lunch and transition times, and on field trips
  • Fill in other school positions as needed

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience working with elementary school age children
  • A bachelor’s degree, a masters degree or equivalent — preferably related to education
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed
  • Desire to teach in a setting that values giving agency to students and allowing students to make mistakes and gain maturity and self-motivation through independence
  • Passion for working with and engaging children in student-driven learning experiences
  • Belief in fostering children’s social-emotional capabilities
  • Commitment to continuous improvement
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and service orientation
  • Open-minded, easy-going, and flexible nature.
  • Equal parts self-starter and team player with excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Prior experience with demonstrated academic results and incorporating social-emotional learning into student experiences
  • Prior experience with or interest in collaborative and constructivist instruction, in which the teacher acts as a coach/mentor who supports student agency and independence
