Thaksin University, a medium-sized liberal arts school in Songkhla, Southern Thailand is currently looking for a full-time English lecturer to begin teaching in the new semester in August, 2015.
This position contract requires the candidate to hold a minimum BA/BS degree from a recognized university. Native English speakers with degrees in English (or related fields), teaching experience, and teaching qualifications are preferred. The salary is 30,000 baht/month.
Government regulations stipulate that new hires cannot be older than 60 years. In addition, there is no initial/end travel allowance to/from Songkhla for these positions. It has been the practice that the university will reimburse the costs for visa and work permit, usually after approximately 3 months; these costs are around 5,000 baht. The university may reimburse part or all of the travel costs (for example to Penang, Malaysia) where one already in Thailand is able to apply for the initial Non-immigrant B visa.
Generally the teaching load is 15-18 hours per week; new teachers are assigned to teach two or/three courses in the English major area only. Courses are usually the skills based subjects, such as writing, listening and speaking, and presentation. The teacher will be responsible for choosing the materials, writing the course outline, teaching, assessing the students, and reporting final grades. Courses will be assigned according to the teacher’s academic qualifications, preference, and special interests.
This position is for a full-time position. Additional, non-teaching duties are assigned to every teacher in our department. The successful candidate for this position will be expected to participate in professional development project or teachers/students, to be available for discussions with colleagues and students, and to work within the departmental/faculty team.
