Full-time Mini English Program, Primary School

This job is located at Anuban Lampang Khelangratanusorn School in Lampang

Expected salary: At least 30,000 Baht/month
Published on: 20-05-2015
Hello,

Firstly, please let me state that I am not a recruiter but an English teacher at this great school and I have been asked to find 2 English teachers for the this school year starting on immediately.

The school is called Anuban Lampang and the roles are teaching Prathom 4 (age 10) and Prathom 1 (age 7) students based in the Mini English Program. The school is currently classed as the best Prathom school in Northern Thailand having picked up the prestigious “King’s School” award for the region.

In order to save you time, please read the conditions below. To be considered, you must have…

- A University Degree (in any discipline) with your original certificate and original transcript of scores.
- A passport from the any of the following countries: UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, South Africa
- No criminal record in Thailand nor your home country (you must provide a criminal check clearance certificate)

A bit about the school and the role:

What is the Mini English Program? It is a private program set up to give students a feeling of immersion. It is not a job teaching the same lesson to 20 different classes of 50 uninterested and poorly behaved students. As the MEP teacher, you will teach your students a range of subjects: English, Math, Science, Health and Art. I can honestly say that it is one of the better jobs you will find in the city. You have a homeroom teacher who is in nearly every class that you teach, so "classroom management" (a nice euphemism for having to tell the kids to 'shut up and sit down' every two minutes) is almost nonexistent.

You teach no more than 15 hours per week. However, you are expected to be at school an hour before classes start and half an hour after classes finish in order to spend time with students, helping them with homework, spelling vocabulary and giving them conversation practice. You are in an a/c room with a PC (with internet) hooked up to a projector. You also have a desk in the foreign teachers' office where you can spend your free time preparing for your classes, grading and chatting with the other native English teachers currently here.

You are expected to teach engaging and interesting classes. You are given textbooks and workbooks on all the subjects, but it is expected that you go that extra yard and give the kids a rich and fulfilling English language experience. Please don't think this job is easy, it isn't. The parents pay a lot of money to send their kids here and they are demanding. Homework is expected in every subject several times per week. Regular testing as well as the usual final tests are to be written by you and grading given accordingly. There were P4 and P1 teachers here last year who hav left quite a lot of resources, so you wouldn't be going into a 'cold' position. Of course, you will want to make the job your own and give your own ‘flavour’ to the classes, so it is expected that you create new and improved classes.

The salary is 33,000 per month. The school pays for your work permit and visa (although you pay the cost for the trip to Laos yourself). The contract is for 12 months, so you get the summer holidays paid for. You will be asked to teach for a week or two next year in the summer.

All suitable CV's will be seen by me and my boss, with further face to face interviews to follow. If you don't hear back, please assume you have been unsuccessful.

If you are currently outside of the country but are genuine about wanting to teach here, I can arrange for a Skype/Facetime interview too. But please understand that priority will go to those applicants who can make a face to face interview.

Many thanks for reading and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

James
